Genre, Sub Genre and Audeince

Genre, Sub Genre and Audience

The blog I am going to do now is about genre, sub genre and audience. Dan has given us a list of different films that we should give out in our groups. The different genres consisted of drama, thriller, horror, comedy , crime and many others. We would need to choose two films to do ourselves and write about the genre etc. I have decided to do the moves; Tower Heist and Friends With Benefits. For both of these films i am going to be analyzing the genre & subgenre, target audience and what the key signifiers were.

Tower Heist

Genre and Subgenre

- Comedy, Genre
- Robbery Movie

Target Audience

- Teens and Young Adults

What Were The Key Signifiers?

- The key signifiers that show it is a comedy as it has famous comedy actors in it. Eddie Murphy is one of the main characters in the movie. Also from the poster you could see the other main actor in it is Ben Stiller. These two actors are mainly known for their many comedy films done. Another thing appealing and relates to the genre is that they are all wearing black, this is almost like an outfit as the sub genre is a robbery movie. Also the characters are on top of a building in the poster, this relates to the title name as it is called 'Tower' Heist.

Friends With Benefits

Genre and Subgenre

- Comedy , Romance
- Drama

Target Audience

- Young Adults

What Were The Key Signifiers?

- As from the poster you could see that the main male actor is Justin Timberlake. This will show the audience that it is not an ordinary movie as it has him as an actor. This is because Justin Timberlake is remotely known for his songs and not for acting. Also from the title of the film 'Friends With Benefits', you can see it is based around the two characters shown on the poster. It will be based on the relationship of the two characters. Also the way Justin Timberlake is portrayed in the poster as his hand on his head and a little smirk. This can show that he is confused about how he maybe feels about Mila Kunis in the film.
