Comparisons to the film Collateral

Comparisons

In our group we had the option of picking one out of two short clips from the Video blog. We believed that collateral would be the easiest and simplest out of the two as well as being the most interesting. The part where we thought making a remake of our chosen clip would be easy and a piece of cake turned out to be a huge misjudgement. We did not figure this out until the actual day of filming. The story boards which we had drawn looked fairly simple. The first problem when filming was the characters and the lack of them. In the Collateral clip you see that there is many extras which helps the Mise-en-scene and creates a busy and bustling atmosphere. This is what we felt was particularly different to our remake and along with the sound. After running through out remake while editing we started to spot the silly and schoolboy errors. For example Mark is not holding the bag in one scene however in the next scene his is walking with the bag. In established films with big budgets small mistakes like this are spotted and fixed very quickly however we did not have enough time to go back out and film. When presenting our finished piece to the class our remake seemed to be very popular. There were many comparisons such as the way Me and Mark were Walking. The music was totally different to the music in the original clip however had the same impact. the indiegetic sound mixed in with the diegetic sound of the bag falling to the floor added to the tense scene and our back in track very cleverly reached a crescendo and paused at the most important bit in the clip.

For our first taste at filming i believe we done a very good job. We managed to establish who were the most comfortable actors in our group and also had a chance of editing our first piece. We fully took on board our classes and Louisa's constructive criticism and hopefully we would be able to in cooperate this into our thriller.
